Job Description
Clatsop Community College, a public, two-year institution, located in Astoria, Oregon, serving students and communities in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, is now accepting applications for Nursing Instructor (70% assignment) beginning Fall term 2010.

Assignment: Full-time Faculty work 174 days per year, beginning in mid September and ending in mid-June each year. There are opportunities for summer teaching.

Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Director, Nursing and Allied Health, works collaboratively to provide clinical and classroom instruction for first and second year nursing students. Job duties may be performed on campus and at clinical settings throughout Clatsop County.

Essential Duties
1. Work with nursing faculty to develop, implement, evaluate and periodically review and revise the organizing framework, learning outcomes, and curriculum of the program.

2. Design and implement instructional activities for classroom, laboratory, and alternative delivery (e.g., on-line, hybrid).

3. Develop, implement, and evaluate student practice experiences, including selecting learning experiences, assessing and guiding students, and evaluating client and student safety and learning outcomes.

4. Evaluate student achievement of identified learning objectives and outcomes, assign grades according to policies, and recommend successful candidates for the degree or certificate.

5. Develop and evaluate policies and standards for the selection, admission, advanced placement, promotion, and graduation of nursing students within the framework of College policies.

6. Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing program policies.

7. Provide for student evaluations of teaching and learning effectiveness.

8. Provide academic advising to students.

9. Maintains professional competence and job qualifications.

10. Interpret program goals and student learning objectives/outcomes for staff in practice settings.

11. Participate in determining academic policies and procedures of the institution and other appropriate faculty activities of the College.

12. Participates cooperatively with other educational programs and agencies to develop appropriate and equitable access to practice sites.

13. Performs other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
1. Master's degree in Nursing
OR
Bachelor’s degree in nursing, and a Master's degree in a related field with a post-master's certificate in nursing from a program that is at least two semesters or three quarters in length;
OR
Bachelor’s degree in nursing with evidence of enrollment and progress towards a Master’s degree in Nursing. (Candidate’s hired under this criteria will be required to complete the Master’s degree within three years after hire date as a condition of continued employment.)

2. Three years full-time nursing experience.

3. Hold a current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse. Candidate hired for this position will be required to obtain an Oregon nursing license by September 16, 2010.

Please Note:
1. Requirements for teaching nursing are determined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Offers of employment are contingent upon review by the OSBN who will further determine whether candidates are approved to teach in Oregon.

2. Attainment of the Master’s degree is a condition of continued employment. The successful candidate’s progress will be reviewed upon initial hire to determine a reasonable timeline for completion. The maximum time allowed will be three years.

3. The successful pass of an Oregon criminal history check is required as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
At least three years recent clinical nursing experience.

• Knowledge of scope of practice of LPN and RN as identified by OSBN.
• Knowledge of various types of instructional delivery modes including web based instruction.
• Knowledge of the nursing process and how it relates to nursing education.

• Skill in the development of performance and/or classroom evaluation.
• Skill in promoting critical thinking in a variety of educational settings.
• Skill in evaluation of student clinical performance.
Abilities
• Ability and willingness to maintain currency in field of nursing practice.
• Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and organize work to complete assigned duties.
